BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:00 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a new attack on the key town of Kabani in northeastern Latakia, today, targeting the southern axis of this militant stronghold.

Backed by heavy artillery, the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Armored Division attempted to break through the militant defenses on the steep Zuwayqat Mountain.

However, the Syrian Army’s attack would ultimately fall short of its objective as they were forced to withdraw back to safe lines after suffering a number of casualties.

The Syrian Army’s attack on Kabani comes just two days after reinforcements from the Tiger Forces arrived in northeastern Latakia to aid with the ongoing battle against the militants.

Due to the steepness of the mountain Kabani is located on, it is very difficult to advance into the town from any axis around the town.

The Turkestan Islamic Party and Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham have used the geography of northeastern Latakia to their advantage, which is one of the reasons why the Syrian Army and their allies have struggled to retake the last areas under militant control in this coastal governorate.
