A fashion influencer has come under fire for a caption which diminished the heartbreaking effect of 9/11.

Xenia Tchoumi, 32, posted a photo of herself reclining against the New York City skyline – with One World Trade Center visible in the background – accompanied by the words ‘Making it dramatic since 2001. #nyfw2019’.

The Russian-Swiss-Italian influencer was quickly slammed by commentors on the post, prompting her to swiftly change the caption.

According to screen captures of the now-edited tagline, the social media personality uploaded the picture at around 8.46AM, the moment when the hijacked plane crashed into the Twin Towers on this day 18 years ago.

The photo is taken in a hotel room in the Meatpacking District against the morning Manhattan skyline.

‘You’ll never truly understand that significance,’ a commentor retaliated underneath the photo of a pouting Xenia in a black off-the-shoulder dress belted at the waist, in which she tagged the brands Gucci and Dyson.

According to another post uploaded this week, the hair tool arm of the brand flew Xenia to New York for the shows.

Offended user Irene_901 told the model that ‘making reference to 2001 is not a joke.’

A follower called Sean_In_Manhattan also dismissed the offensive caption as ‘not appropriate’.

Another wrote, ‘Today is Remembrance Day. May all their souls Rest in peace! #neverforget’, to which Xenia responded with several prayer emojis and a love heart.

The aforementioned criticizing comments appear to have already been deleted.

Within 10 minutes, the caption on the post was altered to read, ‘Making it dramatic for fashion week #nyfw2019’.

A subsequent, more appropriate post was added to Xenia’s Instagram Story, featuring a picture of a deserted Times Square with the caption, ‘It’s surreal to be in this wonderful city at 9/11’.

The influencer announced last week that she will be represented by US-based talent agency CAA.

In her bio, London-based Xenia describes herself as a self-made entrepreneur and feminist with an economic degree, also noting that she speaks six languages.

Earlier today, former The Hills star Kristin Cavallari faced backlash after an Instagram post was uploaded to her feed with the caption, ‘NYC for 24hrs. And what a time to be here..always remember’.

The tribute post simultaneously promoted multiple tagged fashion labels and showed the blond star in a deep plunging black mini dress, prompting followers to brand the reality TV personality, 32, ‘insensitive’, ‘tone deaf’ and ‘disrespectful’.

The mom-of-three quickly blamed a ‘social media staffer’ who works for her after the post went viral.

Kristin claimed that the person ‘took it upon herself to post the image with a modified caption’ and that she was unaware of the changes as she was in a fitting at the time.

Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives to terrorist attacks in New York, Virginia and Pennsylvania on this day 18 years ago – and followers told Kristin to ‘pay your respects’ instead of sharing a self-promotional post.

Xenia’s post also comes just days after multiple influencers were slammed for posting ‘tone deaf’ tributes to victims of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas by sharing scantily-clad bikini photos and ‘belfies’.

Last month, a Tennessee-based lifestyle influencer was widely criticized online for her decision to share photos supposedly from during a motorcycle crash.

And controversial blogger Marissa Casey Grossman (nee Fuchs) was bashed for uploading a sentimental post to her deceased loved ones, while simultaneously promoting a swim suit she was wearing.
