BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:40 A.M.) – The jihadist rebels in northeast Latakia launched an all out attack on the government-held areas along the coast, yesterday, a military source told Al-Masdar News.

According to the source, the jihadist rebels took their attacks one step further last night when they attempted to bomb the Russian Hmeimim Airbase near the coastal city of Jableh.

The Russian military managed to foil the jihadist attack before they could hit any part of this imperative installation.

However, it is very likely that the Russian Air Force is going to issue a powerful response to these attacks on the Latakia Governorate, as each time Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and their allies try to attack the Hmeimim Airbase, the RAF conducts several airstrikes over the Idlib and Hama governorates.

In addition to targeting the Hmeimim Airbase, the jihadist rebels also fired several grad missiles towards Latakia city and the resort town of Slunfeh in the northeastern part of the governorate.

One source in northwestern Syria told Al-Masdar this morning that Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham and their allies conducted these attacks in response to the new round of Astana Peace Talks.

Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham has rejected these peace talks and demanded that the rebels continue their fight against the government.
