BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:00 A.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) carried out a new ambush against a group of Syrian Arab Army (SAA) soldiers in the eastern desert of the Homs Governorate.
According to a military communique from the Homs Governorate, the Islamic State carried out the ambush along the strategic Palmyra-Deir Ezzor Highway.
This ambush by the Islamic State on Sunday afternoon resulted in the death of at least five Syrian Arab Army soldiers, including one officer with the rank of colonel.
The military communique added that the Syrian Arab Army is now on high alert near the desert cities of Al-Sukhnah and Palmyra (var. Tadmur).
Since they lost the eastern countryside of the Homs Governorate, the Islamic State has relied on ambushes and night raids to inflict damage on the Syrian government forces in the region.
These ambushes have become so prevalent that the Syrian Arab Army has been forced to increase their presence across the vast Syrian Desert.
