The legend of Justin Williams added another chapter Wednesday as the Cinderella Carolina Hurricanes continued their magical run.
The Hurricanes’ captain scored the game-winning goal in Carolina’s 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders in Game 3 of their second-round series. The Hurricanes now lead the Isles 3-0 in the best-of-seven and will go for the sweep at home Friday.
Williams delivered his dagger in the third period after a New York giveaway. He drove to the net and converted a feed from Sebastian Aho, who had intercepted a clearing attempt up the boards by Islanders goaltender Robin Lehner.
After scoring his eighth career playoff game-winning goal, Williams now has two goals and three assists in 10 games in the 2019 postseason. The 37-year-old winger and 18-year NHL veteran has 37 goals and 99 points in 150 career playoff games.
