BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:10 P.M.) – Brazil and India will become the latest countries to reopen their embassies in Syria after closing them during the conflict.
Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad reportedly accepted the credentials of Dr. Hifzur Rahman as Ambassador of the Indian Republic, along with Fabio Vaz Pitaluga as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Brazil to the Syrian Arab Republic, SANA reported on Tuesday.
President al-Assad received the two ambassadors separately and wished them success in their missions, the report continued.
Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid Muallem and Minister of Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam attended the ceremony were also in attendence at the ceremony.
The two new ambassadors were received and seen off at the Al-Shaab Palace as per the usual protocol, SANA said.
This move comes just four months after the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain agreed to reopen their embassies in Damascus.
The reopening of these embassies were likely due to the security situation in Damascus.
The Syrian Arab Army’s victories in southern Syria last year have prompted many nations to consider reopening their embassies in Damascus.
