The 15th Special Olympics World Summer Games will kick start Thursday in the Emirati capital with the participation of 7,500 athletes from 192 nations.
This is the first time the tournament is held in the Middle East and North Africa region.
The tournament, taking place until March 22, includes various sports activities and disciplines designed for people with intellectual disabilities.
The tournament was first held in Chicago, Illinois, US in 1968. It is an event recognized by the International Olympic Committee and the Special Olympics Organization.
